“1. Introduction
Imposter syndrome is a phenomenon faced by a huge proportion of astrologers, especially in the early stages of their career. Feeling unworthy of their professional status, they doubt their achievements and their ability to be real astrologers. This is a normal phenomenon arising out of lack of experience and self-confidence, as well as due to the influence of public opinion about the astrological profession.
2. Causes of impostor syndrome
А. The initial stages of an astrologer’s career
When newcomers are just beginning their career as an astrologer, they often feel like imposters. They claim to be professionals, but feel that they are “taking this brand on credit” because they have not yet accumulated enough experience and knowledge. As they gain experience and have their first successes, these doubts usually go away. But at the initial stages, this is a natural state, because a person really is not yet a master of his or her craft.
Б. Lack of recognition of astrology as a science
In Russian-speaking countries, astrology is not recognized as a science, which further increases the feeling of inferiority among aspiring astrologers. Although in some countries, such as Germany or India, astrology has serious public recognition and status, in Russia, Ukraine and Belarus it is perceived as a non-serious activity. This public attitude makes astrologers feel that they are doing something unreliable and insignificant, which reinforces the impostor syndrome.
3. Ways to overcome the impostor syndrome
А. Accumulation of experience and professional achievements
As the astrologer gains experience, builds up his chips and gets the first positive results and recognition from clients, the impostor syndrome gradually goes away. It disappears naturally, as over time one begins to feel competent and confident in one’s knowledge and professional level.
Б. Adequate self-esteem
One of the key causes of imposter syndrome is inadequate self-esteem. It is most often underestimated self-esteem, where a person does not take into account his or her accomplishments and successes. Gradually developing adequate self-esteem based on real accomplishments and feedback from clients helps to overcome this condition.
В. Continuous learning and self-development
The development of an astrologer is not limited to the number of consultations. It is important to constantly learn, to explore new methods, to develop your skills as a speaker and psychologist, and to understand people and their needs. Continuous self-development and training helps to build confidence in one’s abilities and reduce the feeling of imposture.
4. peculiarities of perception of astrology in different cultures
А. Examples of countries with different status of astrology
In different cultures astrology has different status and level of recognition. In Poland, there is a professional code for astrologers despite the lack of universities training professionals in the field. In Germany, there are serious state-supported institutions where astrology is recognized as a professional activity. In India, astrologers are regarded as respected members of society who are sought for advice in various life situations. In such a context, the feeling of imposture among astrologers is much less than in Russian-speaking countries, where astrology is still not recognized as a serious science.
5. The role of the astrologer in society
А. Astrologers as unofficial leaders and experts
Despite official misunderstanding and misunderstanding, astrologers often become shadow leaders and experts to whom people turn in difficult life situations. They are trusted to solve issues related to choices and life changes, which makes them informally significant figures in society along with psychologists and lawyers.
Б. Influence of public opinion on the professional self-perception of astrologers
The public perception that astrology is not a serious profession affects the self-perception of astrologers, causing them to suffer from impostor syndrome. Even those who are skeptical of astrology are often the first to seek help from astrologers in times of crisis, thus emphasizing the hidden importance of the profession. However, public opinion continues to directly influence astrologers’ self-esteem, making them vulnerable to feelings of imposture.”
“6. Finalization
А. The importance of recognizing one’s own achievements
Recognizing one’s own achievements is an important step in overcoming imposter syndrome. In the early stages of a career, an astrologer may feel unworthy of professional status. However, as experience and achievements are gained, this syndrome begins to fade. It is important to remember that self-esteem plays a key role; a person must be able to objectively evaluate their contributions and successes. If an astrologer notices that their work is paying off and they are really helping people, it helps build self-confidence and reduce imposter syndrome.
Б. Summarizing ways to eliminate imposter syndrome
Imposter syndrome goes away naturally as one gains experience and professional accomplishments. Important:
– Accumulating experience and developing your unique skills.
– Continuous learning and self-development.
– An adequate attitude toward oneself and one’s accomplishments.
If the astrologer feels that his role is of meaningful benefit to people, gradually the level of self-confidence increases and the imposter syndrome goes away.
Thus, finding a balance between recognizing one’s own merit and striving for continuous improvement is the key to overcoming imposter syndrome.”
